Simply stocked... at Dogstar (soon)

Fable Skirt + Spindle Tights by Dogstar

I hate to get all gushy, but the last couple of weeks have been kinda amazing and a little surreal. I realised a little while ago that it's only really been just over a year since I started this new little creative life of mine.  While I have moments of wondering what on earth I am doing, sometimes it all just falls into place and I have to pinch myself.

Firstly, I had a great time at Finders Keepers in Brisbane, seeing some familiar faces, meeting lots of new ones and discovering amazing work by other designers.

But the main reason I am a little giddy is that last week I got the opportunity to meet with Masayo Yasuki, designer and founder of my all-time favourite clothing label, Dogstar, and some of her team.  The reason? To take an order for some of my fabric neckpiece creations to be sold in their Brisbane stores. Yep, this is kinda a big deal for me.

If you don't know it, Dogstar is a Brisbane-based label that has developed quite a cult following.  I'm really stuck here trying to think of a succinct way to describe the Dogstar style and appeal succinctly. It's a little edgy and left of centre, yet still classic and timeless. I personally love the multifunctional aspect of a lot of their pieces, which has been a big inspiration for my work.

To be honest, the idea of selling my wares in Dogstar has been in the back of my mind since I started this little adventure.  However, I don't think I would have put myself out there just yet, had Dogstar not sent out a call looking for local artists and designers of jewellery and accessories.  It seemed like a sign, so I went for it, and long story short, here I am, sewing away to fill a nice big order (for me anyway)!

The pieces should be in-store by early December... so long as I get cracking with this sewing anyway.  I'll be sure to get a few snaps of them in-situ.  In the meantime, I'll leave you with a few snaps of some of my favourite pieces from the current Dogstar summer range.  I spent a nice chunk of time in their Valley store while I was in Brissie trying on most of the shop before finally decided on a couple of my favourites to treat myself to a little congratulations-to-me present.  I could have easily spent all my new earnings right there and then!
