Simply snaps... new studio space & new creations

The last two weeks or so have been pretty fantastic.  Not sure what "my stars" are saying, but I reckon it would be something along the lines of this being a high time for creative inspiration and energy.  I've had lots of good news, motivation and feedback to spur me into what looks like a busy time ahead.

If I had to pinpoint it, I think it started with a trip to Brisbane for the opening of my Dad's latest art exhibition. He had offered to have a few of my pieces on display at the show, which I gladly accepted.  I had thought we would just lie them on a little table in the corner, however, it turned out there was a whole little room for me to display my wares alongside Dad's charcoals (the main exhibition featured his oil paintings).  This worked perfectly given I use some of his charcoal designs as mannequins.  It felt a bit like my own little pop-up shop!  I wish I had known so I could have done a bit more spruiking to my Brisbane mailing list (despite having a "real job" in PR and marketing for several years, I am my own worse promoter sometimes I think).

It was a really successful show for Dad, and I was pretty stoked to sell quite a few pieces too.  The space, Percolator Gallery in Paddington, was just perfect.  Dad and I are already planning to do a bigger combined exhibition there next year with his charcoals, my Simply Phoebe creations, as well as a few other artists/ crafters/ makers.

The few days in Brisbane were a lot of fun, and made me realise how much I miss my family and old friends, but at the same time I was very happy to get back to Melbourne and into the swing of things.

Not long after I got back, I received the news that I had been accepted as a stallholder at the Finders Keepers' first market in Melbourne.  My experience with Finders Keepers in Brisbane last year blew me away, so I was pretty pumped for their foray into Melbourne and am feeling pretty chuffed to be part of it.

Speaking of markets, I am finally making my Melbourne market debut this Saturday (11 September) at Craft Hatchan incubator market run by Craft Victoria to showcase the work of student and emerging designers.  Craft Hatch is held at the City Library on Flinders Lane (map), up on the level 1 gallery. Come say hello if you are in town and around!

Before I go, I thought it was high time to share a few snaps of my new studio space and some new creations I've got on the go.  You may have already seen some of the work-in-progress shots on the Simply Phoebe facebook page.  Since taking these shots many of the bundles of strands have since been transformed into new pieces which I will be photographing later today.

I also finished off a special little commission piece using the last of my "Olga" fabric, mixed in with some nice bright yellow.  I love how it's turned out and will have to find some more bright yellow fabric for bright summer pieces I think.

Simply yours,
